“The Ring General” GUNTHER says he is finally ready to fully embrace his Intercontinental Championship record.
Back in the summer of 2022, GUNTHER defeated Ricochet to win the Intercontinental Championship.
Following this win, “The Ring General” has held the title for over 600 days and defended his gold more than 20 times on WWE programming.
During an appearance on Double T Mornings on Demand, GUNTHER discussed fully embracing his Intercontinental Championship record. He said:
“It still feels a little bit surreal. Seeing your own name on the list with all those real legends and greats that held the title for a long time as well.”
But its also very important that you see yourself like that and recognize yourself as one of them. In my case, actually being on top of the list, as best.”
“But, you have to fully embrace that. It takes a little while to do that, but I’m fully there now, I think.”
“I’m not stopping yet. I still have a little in me when it comes to the Intercontinental Championship. I’m fully focused on what the next challenge is.”
When asked if it gets harder the more title defenses he has to make, GUNTHER answered:
“Its definitely harder all the time. Because you are the champion, you are always in the situation that, after a while defending the title, it’s like, it’s your business, it’s your daily business as the champion.”
“But whoever you face, it’s their one chance. I’m always gonna have an opponent who is fully motivated, and will throw everything he has into this match.”
“That’s a challenge, but also I like it. It’s very important, because it forces me to stay on edge and don’t get too comfortable.”
GUNTHER will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40. For the full lineup for the event, click here.
