Incredible Backstage Pre-Match Story From FTR vs. Bullet Club Gold AEW Collision Match AEW

A quartet of AEW stars have been hailed for working a critically acclaimed match despite a lack of proper preparation beforehand.

The 2/3 falls AEW World Tag Team Title Match between FTR and Bullet Club Gold (Jay White & Juice Robinson) from the July 15 edition of AEW Collision has been widely praised, even receiving 5.25 stars from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

When discussing the match further in the Newsletter, Meltzer would reveal that the in-ring action was only part of what made the match such an impressive spectacle, with the 57-minute contest seemingly going ahead without much planning beforehand.

Meltzer wrote:

What made the FTR vs. White & Robinson match so impressive in ways a fan wouldn’t know is that very little was planned out.

So many had issues on the Canadian tour with crazy air travel and delays.

Robinson didn’t arrive until around 2pm local time, and FTR had things they had to film.

There was an attempt to get the match moved back because with the time in Calgary it was a 6pm local time start.

It was noted to us that those in the match felt they were not prepared to do an hour match, but still pulled it off.

The epic contest eventually saw FTR retain their title, gaining two falls just in time before the match’s 60 minute time limit elapsed.

As a result, FTR will now turn their attention to the winners of the blind eliminator tag team tournament, that being the ‘Better Than You Bay-Bay’ tandem of AEW World Champion MJF and Adam Cole.

The title match will take place on AEW Collision on July 29, and may well give us the answer as to whether MJF and Cole’s friendship is indeed built to last or not.
