CM Punk’s loss to Mike Jackson at UFC 225 caused the inevitable wrestling fan response: “He will return to wrestling now”.
Punk has repeatedly stated that he is done with pro wrestling and considers that aspect of his life to be a completed chapter. Punk has no desire to return to the ring.
Nevertheless, speculation will continue about a Punk comeback until the day he dies. Jim Ross was the latest to offer comment about Punk’s future on his podcast The Ross Report:
“I don’t see Punk ever, ever, being full time for any wrestling company again at this stage in his life and his recent experiences in the pro wrestling biz, plus, he’s not in a cash-strapped situation. He’s got nothing left to prove. He doesn’t owe the wrestling fans anything. He’s given it all to you. What more do you want? How many more years? So he’s got a lot of marketable skills, Phil Brooks. I think he’d be a great broadcaster in many areas. He’s got a lot of interests. But CM Punk is, as Gordon Solie used to describe ‘Cowboy’ Bill Watts in Florida Championship Wrestling, when Gordon would say, ‘that ‘Cowboy’ is a strange enigma that many simply do not understand. Uh-uh.'”
Regardless of what Punk, JR, Colt Cabana or anyone else might say, rumors of Punk returning at All In or being discussed as a potential Royal Rumble entrant come January will no doubt continue.
