Here’s the latest on WWE’s plans for Shinsuke Nakamura to challenge for the WWE Universal Championship.
Fans initially speculated that Nakamura was next in line for a title shot following his interactions with The Bloodline at the end of the April 8 edition of SmackDown, with the Japanese star interrupting Roman Reigns’ promo, before getting attacked by The Usos.
Since then, Nakamura and Reigns haven’t interacted, with the Tribal Chief recently beginning an on-screen rivalry with Drew McIntyre.
Ringside News – which has had several backstage reports confirmed by the likes of Fightful and Dave Meltzer in recent times – now reports that a tenured member of the WWE creative team has told them that Nakamura won’t face off against Reigns at a stadium show, but the match is “there for (WWE) to use with Roman when we need it.”
Reigns will team with The Usos to do battle with Drew McIntyre & RK-Bro at WrestleMania Backlash. A Raw & SmackDown Tag Team Title Winner Takes All match between RK-Bro and The Usos was originally advertised for the May 8 event.
