Roman speaks

Roman says he destroyed Brock. There’s nothing else left for him to do. So, he’s got two belts. He wants the Usos to have two belts too. So, he wants them to go to Raw and get the Raw Tag Team Titles. He wants to unify those titles too.

Of all the music to hear, I would not have expected to hear this. Shinsuke Nakamura is out. In what world would Nakamura come out to challenge Roman. He’s done nothing of note in singles competition in a long time.

Roman says he understands what Nakamura is feeling. He knows what it is like to lose a partner. He gives him a hug. A HUG? Yep. After the hug, The Usos give him a superkick party. Nakamura is out. Shinsuke says nothing. He just gets his head kicked off.

That segment was a nothing segment. We’re supposed to get his next step. He says nothing about what he is going to do. Is Nakamura his next challenger? If so, what a step down from Brock.

Liv vs. Sasha

Liv is interviewed backstage before the match. She wants to get the win and gain momentum for the title match on Raw. Ripley her partner in the match is not here. Clearly, Ripley is going to turn on her.

Sasha looks impressive throughout this one. Liv does the babyface in peril routine terrifically. Naomi is on commentary. She and Sasha are the first black woman duo to win the WWE titles. If you forget, you can listen to Michael Cole remind you 4o times during the match.

During the match, we see Shayna and Natalya watching awkwardly backstage. Liv Morgan gets the shocking win. Maybe they aren’t breaking up. They will. But, Liv getting the win is a big deal for Liv. Beating Sasha could be the thing that puts her up a level.

It’s 9:43. That means we get a 10 minute Roman entrance and a 2 minute promo.

Motherhood has changed Lacey Evans

Lacey Evans is back. She’s in camo pants and she tells her story of her childhood. That includes her dad being an addict and an abuser. She talks about how her mom ran away. They moved around from shelter to shelter. She talks about how she knows to overcome the odds. She gets teary eyed and the crowd cheers her. She says that doesn’t mean she’s better than the other women, but they sure ain’t better than her. This is a long way from the lady version of Evans.

We’ll see how it goes. The first installment seemed effective. Personally, I felt like she was a lot more comfortable in this persona. Of course, it’s a lot more real life which always makes things better.

Sami Zayn and Drew McIntyre

I have no idea how to describe Sami Zayn’s entrance dance today. It was odd. He’s facing Drew McIntyre. The crowd chants something I can’t quite make out, but Sami wasn’t a fan of it.

That was a short one. Every time Drew McIntyre got rolling, Sami Zayn would run away to the outside. Eventually, he tries to run away by going back up the ramp. Drew chases him down and carries him back to the ring.

Drew went for the Claymore. Sami rolls out of the ring. He jumps the barricade and runs away through the crowd. Drew wins via count-out.

I don’t mind the count-out win from a booking standpoint. Sami is portrayed as a bit of a coward and he would run away from Drew. However, I’m not sure what it does for Drew. Are these two going to be in a program or was this a one-off? I don’t think this win makes him more of a candidate from Roman’s championship.

Not so Happy Talk

Happy Corbin is here and he’s sad that he lost. He says there is only one person to blame for his loss to McIntyre. It’s Madcap Moss. He says Moss has gotten too big for his suspenders. He says he distracted him. He says he needs to know his place. Moss’s place is to tell him jokes. The crowd chants Madcap.

Moss actually tells his two best jokes so far. Corbin says they are terrible and not funny. Madcap Loss and Madam Pearce were the two punchlines. Corbin tells him he has to tell him a joke or Corbin will fire him. Moss runs down all the bad characteristics of Corbin. Corbin decks him. Moss fights back and the two fight to the outside of the ring.

Madcap Moss has turned face. Please give him a new name. Although, it might be worse given their recent track records. Moss throws Corbin outside and stands tall in the end. He destroys the Happy Talk set and jumps up and down on Corbin’s hat.

Jinder Mahal and Shanky are fussing at Adam Pearce. Jinder wants Ricochet and the Intercontinental Title match. Ronda walks up and Jinder gets scared. She is not happy that he doesn’t have official word on her match with Charlotte.

Ludwig and Gunther

Ludwig is here to introduce Gunther. They have a new look. They are no longer Imperium. They are no longer in black and white gear. They are in glaringly bright red. I know Vince loves to put his own stamp on things, but someone should introduce him to the cliche “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Prior to the match, Sami Zayn is backstage complaining to Adam Pearce. He wants to face the next person who walks through an adjacent door. It was Drew McIntyre. So, we’re getting a match between the two later. As they walk away, some guy brings Pearce a letter. What did it say? Oh, the intrigue.

Joe Alonzo is his opponent and something tells me Joe is going to have a bad night. Gunther gets the win. He didn’t break out a lot of his offense. It was about 15 massive chops, a couple of boots to the face, and finishes him off with the big powerbomb. Gunther was certainly impressive. Holy cow.

Backstage, we get another new superstar debut. Raquel Rodriguez (Gonzalez) is backstage. She’s got a new name. She puts the women’s locker room on notice. Up walk Los Lotharios. They want to give her a kiss but she declines.

Up next, Happy Talk.

Butch and Woods

Butch is about to face Xavier Woods. Before the match, Butch, Ridge, and Sheamus all shove each other around mosh-pit style while chanting fight-night. These three could be such a great faction, but right now they are saddled with some lame bits.

How do you get a new talent over? You have them lose via small package in their debut. Butch controlled much of the match, but Xavier Woods comes out victorious.

Butch may have a new name, but his wrestling style is the same. He wrestled his usual vicious style. Although, he did not wrestle in wrestling gear like his counterparts Sheamus and Holland. Instead he wore the same outfit he has been wearing on the show. Maybe he just doesn’t want to pay for a new singlet with the name Butch on it.

After the match, he threw a temper tantrum. He slapped both Ridge Holland and Sheamus. Eventually, he went and sat in the corner. He was pouting. The commentators even called him a child. That’s one way to package him.

Ronda Rousey opens the show!

According to some fancy pants statistics, Ronda isn’t as over as she used to be. Based on the crowd reaction tonight, they took a minute to get going. She got a slight chant, but it definitely wasn’t a loud as when she had her first go around.

Ronda says her momma told her she needs to be ready to beat her opponent twice. She says she wants a rematch and she wants Charlotte in an I Quit match. Flair shows up on the video screen doing some fake laughter and some lame comebacks. She says no and tells her to get in the back of the line.

Ronda says the match is going to happen. She says Charlotte won’t say I quit. She’ll scream it. While I like watching these two wrestle, their promo battles leave a lot to be desired.

Preview for tonight's show!

Almost time! See you back here soon!
