WWE announces a major change to the Intercontinental Championship #1 contenders match on this Friday’s SmackDown.
On the March 3 edition of SmackDown, several stars announced their intention to get a shot at Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 39.
The company then announced that there would be a five-way bout between Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, LA Knight, Kofi Kingston and Karrion Kross on the March 10 edition of SmackDown. The winner of the match would move on to face Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 39.
As previously reported, Kofi Kingston suffered an arm injury that could keep him out of action for 2-8 months.
On Thursday, WWE announced that Kofi will be replaced in the #1 contenders match by his New Day teammate Xavier Woods on this Friday’s SmackDown. The company wrote the following on Twitter:
