AEW World Champion MJF has reflected on the importance of working with former ROH World Tag Team Champion Adam Cole in AEW this year.
In the summer of 2023, Adam Cole came out to confront AEW World Champion MJF for the very first time.
This led to a journey between the two men that saw them wrestle to a 30-minute time limit and then teaming with one another thus becoming best friends.
This partnership with Cole led to AEW’s most detestable heel, Maxwell Jacob Friedman becoming one of the most popular babyfaces in the company.
Speaking with TV Insider, MJF was asked how important was working with Adam Cole in allowing him to show that other side of himself. He answered:
“It was because of Adam Cole that I was able to get comfortable and get that love from the crowd. Now that he is not around at the moment, I’ve been struggling both mentally and physically.”
“I feel December 30 is an opportunity for me to remind people of why they fell in love with me in the first place. I’m taking this very seriously and not taking it for granted.”
“There will be no smoke and mirrors or bullsh*t. You’re going to get a non-nonsense main event between me and Samoa Joe for the AEW world title.”
Adam Cole has been out of action with an ankle injury since September 2023.
Meanwhile, MJF will defend the AEW World Title against Samoa Joe this Saturday, December 30 at AEW Worlds End.
