Real Reason Matches Pulled From WWE SummerSlam 2023 WWE

At least two matches planned for WWE SummerSlam on August 5 haven’t made it to the final card and the reason has now been revealed.

Among the matches that were dropped from the Premium Live Event are Becky Lynch vs Trish Stratus and seemingly Rhea Ripley vs Raquel Rodriguez for the Women’s World Championship, although there’s still a chance the latter gets added at the last minute.

While the card is, at the time of writing, eight matches deep including the SummerSlam Battle Royal, the reasoning behind the cuts has now been revealed.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, time is the reason, with Meltzer saying:

“There is a time constraint. I was told that was part of the reason some of these matches that were originally earmarked for the show are off, is because they have a time limit on the show which I guess is three-and-a-half to four hours and they didn’t want to short-change matches basically, as far as time. So that is part of it.”

In the wake of the two women’s matches being dropped, Rhea Ripley liked a tweet asking WWE to treat their women’s division better.

Becky Lynch has also seemingly reacted, as you can see at this link.

As previously noted, there are two women’s matches on the WWE SummerSlam card at present with Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler facing off in an ‘MMA Rules’ match, as well as Asuka defending her WWE Women’s Championship against both Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair in a three-way match.

WWE Hall of Famer Kid Rock is set to feature in the “cold open” to this year’s SummerSlam.

It has also been reported that a number of WWE stars who are not on the PLE will be in Detroit for media appearances and other reasons.
