Tonight (December 13) a two hour documentary aired on VICE titled, The Nine Lives of Vince McMahon which delved deeper into the life of the complicated man behind the dastardly character.
While the 120 minute affair was primarily comprised of clips from previous episodes from the also VICE produced series Dark Side of the Ring, there was a lot to unpack.
Positioning McMahon throughout as resilient if not ruthless pursuer of success, if viewers were looking for any kind of news breaking scandal, there was very little.
While acknowledging the Rita Chatterton accusations chronologically, there was not significant discussion of the more recent reports of further legal exploration of the matter.
All in all, if you have seen most episodes of Dark Side of the Ring, there probably wasn’t a lot of new info here for you.
There were new interviews sound bites from wrestling pioneers and pundits alike with comments from Dave Meltzer, Bryan Alvarez, Brandon Thurston and of course, Vince Russo.
Russo with the most foreboding quote of the final quarter hour which focused on McMahon’s shock retirement, saying:
“The WWE is his life… I’m sure wherever he’s hunkered down, he’s doing as much WWE work as he can get away with.”
There was no mention of a potential return of Vince McMahon to WWE either as discussed earlier today via both the Wall Street Journal article and subsequent reports regarding backstage reaction to the idea.
