AEW
The CM Punk and AEW saga is still being felt in the company over a month after the AEW All Out media scrum that led to CM Punk, Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks being suspended from the company.
Punk’s rant against the executive vice presidents of All Elite Wrestling following his AEW World Championship victory over Jon Moxley divided the fanbase and the AEW locker room.
The latest update from the situation is that Punk is not expected back in the company, with AEW reportedly looking at a buy out of Punk’s contract.
Dave Meltzer spoke about the locker room’s reaction to the situation in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, noting that the AEW locker room is decidedly ‘anti-Punk’.
He wrote:
The sentiment of those in AEW among most talent, not all talent, was decidedly anti-Punk, between the television promo on Page, who is overall very popular with the talent, the scrum where he said Page had never done anything in the business which was taken as saying AEW means nothing in wrestling since Page had been one of the top stars since day one and headlined three successful PPV shows and been in arguably the best match in company history (Young Bucks vs. Kenny Omega & Page). The fight also made the entire company look bad.
Even if Punk does return to AEW, it would not be for several months, as he is also currently sidelined with a triceps injury that he suffered in the match with Moxley at All Out.
The altercation led to Ace Steel being released from AEW this past week, while there has still been no update on the status of the Elite following their suspension.
