Sasha Banks/Mercedes Mone Reveals True Feelings About ‘WWE Divas’

Mercedes Mone (fka Sasha Banks in the WWE) has opened up about the term “Diva” ahead of her much anticipated AEW debut.

It is widely expected that Mone will make her AEW debut at Dynamite: Big Business on March 13, 2024, with the former WWE star dropping a tease on Instagram recently.

Mone recently appeared on the Kid Rocks Wrestling Podcast and spoke about the evolution of women’s wrestling, touching upon the word “Diva” in particular, saying:

“I always wanted to change the definition of what it was to be a Diva.”

Asked if the term was a negative word for her, Mone went on to say:

“To me… now… no, because it means so much.

“But, back then, I could never watch it with my mom or my grandma.

“My grandma would make fun of me, or I’d be just like “yeah, grandma, that’s what I want to do.”

“Those (were) the times. We weren’t treated equally, we weren’t treated the same, we weren’t given the same respect.

“But, now we are, and the demand of that, women are main-eventing unbelievable things, weekly television, PPVs, headlining, interviews, red carpets. Doing it beyond and killing it.”

Mone would also discuss what her Sasha Banks character meant to her in WWE where she was a six-time Women’s Champion.

Having last wrestled for WWE in May 2022 and gone on to work for NJPW, she has also revealed that she expects to head back to WWE one day.
