Backstage News On Sting AEW Revolution 2024 Retirement AEW

After an emotional night in Greensboro, NC, a new report has revealed many backstage details of Sting’s AEW Revolution 2024 retirement.

In the main event of AEW’s first 2024 pay-per-view offering, The Icon Sting took center stage, wrapping up his career in fitting fashion for one of the all-time greats – as he and Darby Allin successfully retained the AEW Tag Team Championships against The Young Bucks.

Now, courtesy of a new report from Fightful Select we have some news on the decision to have Sting and Darby’s retain, despite the hall of famer hanging up his boots.

According to the report, honouring Sting correctly was “important” to AEW with the decision for Sting and Darby retaining being Tony Khan and others in AEW.

The company were reportedly “adamant” the Stinger went out on top and as a champion, despite having to vacate the championships shortly thereafter the match.

The decision for The Bucks not to win was reportedly made “weeks ago”, however, both Matthew and Nicholas are expected to remain in the AEW Tag Team Championship scene –  with a tournament to crown new champions announced by Tony Khan at the post-Revolution scrum.

Speaking of The Bucks, Fightful’s report also notes that their placement as Sting’s final opponents was a decision that The Icon had a “major say” in.

The match was also said to be a lock to main event Revolution near enough as soon as Sting announced his intention to retire at the show.

Interestingly, the location of Revolution was originally planned to be the midwest, but was moved to a more fitting location for Sting’s retirement.

It’s unclear what Sting’s future looks like post-Revolution, but make sure to stay with WrestleTalk for further updates as/when they become available.
