A title change took place on tonight’s (August 4) episode of WWE NXT on the CW Network featuring another champion.
Over the past few weeks, Tavion Heights and Myles Borne have gone on to form something of a No Quarter Catch Crew reunion following their match at the Great American Bash.
However, Myles’ current reign as North American Champion had got in the way of any potential tag team aspirations, with Robert Stone saying that he and Tavion could face off with the Vanity Project for the NXT Tag Team Championship so long as Myles defended the North American Championship against Kam Hendrix, which he did last week.
Myles Borne & Tavion Heights Win NXT Tag Team Championship
The NXT Tag Team Championship match took place on tonight’s episode of NXT, and saw the challengers come out on top, with Myles Borne and Tavion Heights becoming the new champions.
This puts Borne in rarefied air on the NXT brand as one of several people to hold two championships at the same time, a list which also includes his current real life girlfriend Stephanie Vaquer, as well as names like Sol Ruca and Keith Lee.
Borne is the second wrestler to specifically hold the North American and NXT Tag Team Championships at the same time, with the first being Adam Cole as part of the Undisputed Era in 2018.
A Tag Team Renaissance In NXT
Historically, NXT had assembled several different eras of great tag team divisions, with the Undisputed Era, DIY, The Revival, Fraxiom, Street Profits and more holding down the division on the brand over the years.
Following Fraxiom’s main roster call up last year, the NXT Tag Team Division had lost a lot of it’s way.
While there were several teams in the division, including Hank & Tank, DarkState, OTM and the Culling, the division was more or less an afterthought, with no real standout teams rising above the rest.
However, in recent months it seems as though NXT may finally be looking at reviving what was once a great selling point of the brand as new alliances continue to form.
From the official move up from Evolve for the former NXT Tag Team Champions The Vanity Project to the recent formation of fun alliances like Sean Legacy & Dorian Van Dux and Romeo Moreno & Noam Dar, as well as various members of Birthright and DarkState, the building blocks are there for NXT to once again have a thriving tag team division soon.
