Roman Reigns AAA Plans Update After WWE Raw Tease

An update has emerged regarding WWE’s plans for Roman Reigns in AAA after the World Heavyweight Champion’s interaction with Rey Mysterio at the end of Monday Night Raw.

The Monday, August 3 episode of WWE Raw saw an eyebrow-raising ending, as Rey Mysterio approached Reigns, informed him of his role as AAA General Manager, and asked if he can “run something by him.”

With the interaction seemingly indicating that Reigns could be on his way to AAA for his first-ever appearance in the promotion, Dave Meltzer has provided an update on WWE’s potential plans.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer reported that Reigns’ AAA appearance will not be at either TripleMania 34 Night One at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Friday, September 11, or AAA’s August 30 show in Edinburg, Texas – which is on the same day as AEW All In London.

“Well obviously they’re (WWE) gonna put him on a show. What I can tell you is, it is not going to be the MGM Grand show. “My first two picks were the MGM Grand show or the show in Edinburg, Texas, which goes against (AEW) All In. Those made sense as far as they’re the next two upcoming.

“I only know that he is not on the Texas show, and he’s not on the MGM Grand show.”

Meltzer also noted that it would “make sense” if Reigns was on the AAA Worlds Collide event on September 26, but could not confirm if this would be the planned date for his appearance.

AAA Worlds Collide, like the August 30 Edinburg, Texas show, will be happening on the same day as a prominent AEW pay-per-view – this time All Out on September 26 – although, unlike the August 30 show, it will also be happening in the same city as well: Chicago.

AEW All Out 2026 will be emanating from the NOW Arena in Chicago, whereas AAA Worlds Collide is taking place just 20 miles away at the Allstate Arena.

CM Punk is another major WWE star to tease a potential appearance in AAA recently, with his attention being towards Worlds Collide in his hometown of Chicago and a match at Dominik Mysterio.

WWE Show Their Ruthless Competitive Streak Once Again

WWE announcing new events for the same date as AEW’s pay-per-views – and then stacking said shows with star power – is not anything new, with AEW President Tony Khan recently labelling the practice as “predatory” but also a compliment to AEW’s success and “the reality of current wrestling.”

While Worlds Collide may indeed make a dent in All Out’s success given its in the same city as All Out, some of WWE’s decisions to place NXT premium live events on the same day as AEW PPVs have arguably only hurt those NXT shows.

Whatever you think of WWE’s approach it doesn’t seem like they are changing tact any time soon, and by throwing Roman Reigns and potentially CM Punk onto AAA events, they’re making perhaps their most ruthless power move yet.
