Former WWE Star Returns To The Company On Raw

A former WWE star has officially made his return to the company on tonight’s August 3 episode of Raw emanating from Des Moines, Iowa.

Over the past few weeks, there have been short promotional videos teasing the return of former WWE star Big Cass.

Cass spent 2011 to 2018 with WWE before he was released, going on to join AEW in 2022 under the name Big Bill up until his departure just a few weeks ago.

The videos that had been airing in recent weeks had pointed to the date of August 3, and were largely centered around Cass’ battles in his personal life, which were a big reason for his initial release eight years ago.

It’s been well documented that he got his life back on track and ended up being a positive presence backstage in AEW.

Cass made his return tonight, on the advertised August 3 date, by attacking Je’Von Evans following Evans’ win against Ethan Page.

Worth noting is that there was no sign of Cass’ former tag team partner in WWE, Enzo Amore, who was reportedly set to return to the company alongside him.

Amore also hadn’t been mentioned in any of the videos teasing Cass’ return other than short clips of Cass attacking him when they’d split up, but that seemed like more a generic clip of Cass on offense rather than it specifically being about him attacking Amore.

The Likely Explanation For Recent WWE Returns

There have been some very notable outgoings from WWE this year, including veterans like New Day and Sheamus.

In the opposite direction though have been the returns of Baron Corbin, who just won the United States Championship at SummerSlam, and now Cass’ comeback tonight.

At a time that WWE is being called out for its ageing roster and lack of younger stars, there are definitely question marks over bringing back a 41 year old Corbin and a 39 year old Cass.

However, there is an argument that their presence will help boost up some of the younger members of the roster with some on the job training, getting them ready to take those spots.

If WWE sees Corbin and Cass as reliable veterans – specifically heels – who can help elevate others rather than potential major stars in their own rights, then their signings do make sense to some degree.
