AEW held it’s inaugural WrestleDream pay-per-view event today (October 1), on the one year anniversary of the passing of wrestling icon Antonio Inoki.
The Zero Hour pre-show got underway with the WrestleDream opening ceremony, where Tony Khan was in the ring alongside Rocky Romero, Katsuyori Shibata and Inoki’s Grandchildren.
Khan had a table with a framed photo of Inoki placed in the ring, along with Inoki’s scarf which his grandchildren had presented to him.
Khan put over Inoki as a pioneer of professional wrestling, and promised to pay tribute to one of professional wrestling’s greatest minds.
The segment ended with Christian Cage watching on the screen, who is set to compete in tonight’s main event against Darby Allin in a TNT Championship 2 out of 3 Falls match.
