Update On STARDOM Potentially Working With AEW AEW/STARDOM

An update has emerged on AEW potentially working with Japanese women’s promotion World Wonder Ring STARDOM in the future.

AEW and NJPW will host a crossover ‘Forbidden Door’ event in Chicago on June 26. With NJPW being an all-men’s promotion, there was initially speculation that AEW names will face stars of STARDOM at the show, before it was reported that there are no plans to have STARDOM involved with this particular show.

Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, STARDOM would be interested in being part of future shows with AEW, and would be interested in booking AEW talent for an upcoming show in December at Sumo Hall.

Pointing out that AEW has previously worked with other Japanese women’s promotions, Meltzer noted:

“AEW has mostly been working with Tokyo Joshi Pro and Gatoh Move when it comes to Japanese women wrestlers. We do know that Stardom, which is owned by Bushiroad, the same company that owns New Japan, would be interested in being part of future shows and working with AEW. Stardom would also be interested in booking AEW talent for a 12/30 show at Sumo Hall, although neither side has talked as best we can tell and for sure not as of the weekend.”

STARDOM notably has  its own ‘Fight In The Top‘ pay-per-view event scheduled for June 26, the same date as AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

Bushiroad, NJPW’s parent company, purchased STARDOM in October 2019. NJPW has occasionally played host to STARDOM exhibition matches since, with Tam Nakano & Saya Kamitani notably teaming to face off against Mayu Iwatani & Starlight Kid at Wrestle Kingdom 16 in January.
