The producer listed for the CM Punk and John Cena promo segment on today’s June 27 episode of WWE SmackDown has been revealed.
The last segment of the show was billed as “face-to-face” between Punk and Cena ahead of their match at Night of Champions tomorrow, but might not have gone how fans were expecting.
Punk made his entrance to John Cena’s retro Basic Thugnamics theme song and was dressed similar to the ‘Dr of Thuganomics’ version of Cena from 20 years ago.
Punk then proceeded to perform his promo as a several-minutes-long rap, which you can see the full transcript for at this link.
Given the uniqueness of the segment, there’s been some intrigue in regards to who else was involved with it behind the scenes.
As reported by PWInsider Elite, it was former WWE United States Champion Bobby Roode who was the producer for the Cena and Punk segment.
In terms of his time with WWE, Roode is also a former two-time Raw Tag Team Champion (once with Chad Gable and once with Dolph Ziggler), a SmackDown Tag Team Champion with Ziggler, and a former NXT Champion. He of course also had a storied career before signing with WWE in 2016, which included winning multiple major championships in TNA.
He was ruled out of in-ring action due to injury issues in 2022, and transitioned into the backstage producer role after that.
