‘I Got Some Trouble At Work’ – Will Ospreay Asks NJPW’s United Empire For Help Amid Jon Moxley AEW Feud

Will Ospreay has asked NJPW’s United Empire for help amid his ongoing feud with John Moxley back in his home promotion of AEW.

In what will be The Aerial Assassin’s return to AEW pay-per-view competition, Will Ospreay will take on Jon Moxley one on one at AEW Dynasty 2026 on April 12, with the English star looking for some revenge after Moxley and the Death Riders put him on the shelf back at August’s Forbidden Door event.

Following Thursday’s AEW Collision, which saw Ospreay raise the stakes by challenging Moxley to put his AEW Continental Championship on the line in their upcoming match, Ospreay made a return to NJPW at today’s Sakura Genesis event in Tokyo.

In what was his first match in NJPW since February 2024, Ospreay teamed with United Empire stablemates GREAT-O-KHAN and Henare in a winning effort against El Desperado, Taichi and Yuya Uemura.

Later in the night Ospreay was also there to celebrate with his protégé, and fellow United Empire member Callum Newman, who dethroned Yota Tsuji to become the youngest IWGP Heavyweight Champion in NJPW history in Sakura Genesis’ main event match.

After his win Newman addressed the media backstage, which led to Will Ospreay asking the new IWGP Heavyweight Champion and the rest of the United Empire for a favor.

Ospreay said:

“Actually there is something I kind of want to talk to you guys about. I didn’t want to do this in front of you on your big moment.

“I got some trouble at work and I could really do with some backup. I know you just wrestled. I could really use a hand.”

Newman would then rise from his seat, share a look with Henare, and then respond:

“Let’s go to the bar. Let’s talk about it.”

Will United Empire Follow Through On Ospreay’s Request?

Despite Will Ospreay founding United Empire back in 2020, he has not actively led the group since joining AEW in 2024.

While the group’s new leader Callum Newman and Ospreay have close ties, the new IWGP Champion didn’t seem overly thrilled when Ospreay asked he and United Empire for help with his issues in AEW.

This wasn’t the only sign of potential dissension between Ospreay and United Empire however, as Ospreay also reacted negatively to GREAT-O-KHAN and Henare attacking El Desperado and Yuya Uemura after their six-man tag team win earlier in the night at Sakura Genesis.

While it’s unclear whether the United Empire will follow through on helping Ospreay, one thing is guaranteed now that he and Jon Moxley’s match is for the AEW Continental Championship: there will be no outside interference allowed.

This should limit the Death Riders’ influence on the result, but will also mean that any  potentialUnited Empire betrayal of Ospreay would likely come after the match is decided, rather than during.
