Former WWE Star Carlito Believes Triple H Didn’t Get His Character: ‘I’ve Never Been Hunter’s Favorite’

Sanchez has over six years of pro-wrestling news writing experience, covering the biggest news stories in WWE, NXT, AEW, TNA Wrestling and more. He has personally interviewed a number of top stars, producing exclusive content with the likes of AEW's Swerve Strickland and WWE's Nick Aldis.

Carlito has addressed his final run with WWE and his exit from the company, sharing his honest thoughts on his last stint with the Judgment Day.

After re-joining the company in 2023, former US Champion announced his WWE departure on June 1, 2025,  with his contract officially expiring two weeks later.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Carlito stated that WWE had originally wanted him to sign on for three years.

Explaining why he didn’t, Carlito said:

“I signed for two years. They wanted me for three, and I signed for two because I didn’t think it was gonna go as good as it did.

“So, as I said, I bet against myself, and I would have got an extra year, and then my contract would expire. But ended up losing a year. But that’s all right.”

Carlito went on to state that he enjoyed his time as part of the Judgment Day faction.

Believing that Triple H didn’t get the Carlito character, he continued:

“Yeah, I don’t know, because I’ve never been Hunter’s favorite. I don’t think he gets Carlito or the character. So it is what it is.

“But I was gonna make whatever I did work. So Judgment Day came by, and it was fun for me.”

Carlito opting to sign for two years rather than three with WWE wouldn’t be the first time he has thought twice about a WWE deal, with the veteran previously stating that he turned down signing a Legends contract following his 2021 Royal Rumble appearance.

These instances show that Carlito isn’t willing to compromise on his values, and will only put pen to paper if he believes a contract is worthwhile.

When his contract expired, Carlito was holding the WWC Puerto Rico Championship, which he won while being a WWE contracted star at an event ran by his father’s promotion, WWC.

Carlito has been competing on the independent scene since his WWE exit, wrestling for a number of promotions including House of Glory and Maple Leaf Pro.

Carlito’s Romance Storyline With Raquel Rodriguez

Elsewhere in the interview, Carlito spoke about how his “romance” storyline with Raquel Rodriguez during their time in the Judgment Day developed on WWE TV, saying:

“Another thing, just like I was not the main focus of the Judgment Day. They were always Dom and Liv, so it’s these ideas they threw around. But then there would be no follow-up.

“So Raquel and I would do little things to keep it going. So it’s kind of up to us. That was another thing, because it was another thing I could work off. Because going back to what I said, it’s probably this guy that doesn’t get the girl, so this was kind of the way I could be goofed by her to make it more comedic.

“So yeah, those are just little things that we would do. But the origin that they said one week, and then after that, they didn’t bring it up anymore.

“Like I said, it was kind of just her and I just keeping the thing going.”

Also on the topic of the Judgment Day, Carlito praised Dominik Mysterio, saying:

“He’s a rockstar. The way he’s turned into a superstar, I think he’s probably gonna be one of the biggest guys in the business one day.

“So yeah, it’s great to see where he started, and then now finding himself. They’re really getting into the Dirty Dom character.

“I think he just needs to gain some weight, I think. I think he can be World Champion.”
