WWE Teases New WrestleMania Matches For Cody Rhodes After The Rock/Roman Reigns Controversy

WWE Teases New WrestleMania Matches For Cody Rhodes After The Rock/Roman Reigns Controversy WWE

After fan fury about Cody Rhodes deferring his WWE WrestleMania 40 moment to The Rock, the drama was addressed to kick off tonight’s Raw.

WWE Raw on February 5 – three nights after The Rock returned on SmackDown – got started with Seth Rollins who summoned Cody Rhodes to discuss the former’s challenge for Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.

Telling Cody that he needed the match just as much as Cody does, Rollins continued to want Rhodes to agree to face him for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40.

Most notably in their exchange, the crowd was given some latitude to chant by Rollins, including a ‘We Want Cody’ chant, and multiple times, ‘Rocky Sucks!’ broke out.

Michael Cole on commentary acknowledged the chants asking, ‘Is it 1996 again?’.

The pair were then interrupted by Drew McIntyre who made a passionate plea to Rhodes, dissuading him away from the World Heavyweight Championship because McIntyre wants to be the one challenging for it.

When he began to reference Cody’s deceased father, Dusty Rhodes, Seth Rollins interrupted to challenge Drew’s assumption that if Seth wasn’t facing Cody, it would be McIntyre to get the title shot.

The exchange inevitably led to Drew attacking Seth, then being chased away by Cody.

So, in theory, WWE teased Rhodes vs Rollins (which has reportedly been the plan), Rhodes vs McIntyre, or a three-way with all three on tonight’s show.

However, there’s of course also the possibility of just Rollins vs McIntyre if WWE does change course with Rhodes, which is still unclear.
