A new report has revealed scrapped WWE creative plans for former NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez due to an injury.
At NXT Stand & Deliver 2024, Roxanne Perez will challenge Lyra Valkyria for the NXT Women’s Championship.
Leading into the title bout, Perez has underwent a character shift where “The Prodigy” has turned heel for the first time in her WWE career.
Many fans have speculated that Perez is filling the spot that would have been filled by her former tag team partner and rival Cora Jade before she suffered an ACL tear in January 2024.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update, noting that NXT sources have said that Roxanne Perez has not filled the spot that was supposed to be filled by Cora Jade on WWE TV.
In actuality, WWE were provisionally planning to reunite Perez and Jade as heels prior to Cora’s injury.
Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez won the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships in the summer of 2022, but they immediately broke up after the win when Jade turned on Perez.
The report also notes that Perez has been described as “professional beyond her years” by one source within NXT.
Another source in WWE NXT noted that “the sky is the limit” for the 22 year old star moving forward.
Also, Roxanne Perez has “blown away” WWE officials with her recent heel character work, which you can read at this link.
WrestleTalk will provide any further updates on Roxanne Perez’s status on the NXT brand when they become available.
