205 Live
Akira Tozawa vs. Lio Rush
Ah, 205 Live, always there to provide some top-tier wrestling week to week. This past Tuesday opened with the budding mid-card feud between former Champion Akira Tozawa and lightning upstart Lio Rush. Their last match found its way onto this list and the follow up easily joined it.
Tozawa fought like a veteran, owning the majority of standard encounters. Rush, on the other hand, strikes hard in the in-between, making the most of his moments. He is an incredibly impressive prospect on the purple brand and I look forward to seeing where he heads from here.
205 Live
Cedric Alexander vs. Jack Gallagher
Opening strong and closing strong as always. It will never be said enough but please start watching 205 Live if you actually care about match quality. It is head and shoulders above its fellow shows literally every week.
This episode closed with current WWE Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander seeing off Jack Gallagher, following on from last week’s narrative. These two are simply world class performers and it showed here as it always does. Both hit hard and never gave the other a moment to breathe.
What pushed this one to the next level, however, was the context delivered on commentary. While Gallagher had Alexander in strong looking choke holds, Nigel McGuinness repeatedly reminded us that he is weakening the neck for Drew Gulak’s finisher, the GuLock. The champ also proved that he doesn’t need the Lumbar Check to win.
It is a real shame that their match at SummerSlam will be on the pre-show when the likes of Finn Bálor vs. Baron Corbin for no reason at all will fill time on the main card.
