WWE’s Sam Roberts has praised WWE recently announcing more live events over the Summer, and how it can help new NXT call ups get more reps.

This week, WWE announced 10 new live events to take place over the Summer, which came at a time after WWE and TKO had scaled back on live events in recent years due to them reportedly losing money for the company.

Over the past few years, many fans and even WWE stars have been outspoken about their desire to bring back live events, and WWE analyst Sam Roberts has now praised the decision to bring back live events.

Sam Roberts Says Return Of WWE Live Events Is ‘Very Good News’

Speaking on his Notsam Wrestling show, Roberts said that the return of live events will help the recent influx of NXT call ups get more reps in the ring, as they are currently wrestling ‘maybe 2 matches a month’ on the main roster.

He said:

“I’m very interested to see who it is on these shows. I know CM Punk loves doing live events, Cody Rhodes I’m sure is going to be on the shows. But somebody like Oba Femi. I think Oba Femi doing live events would be really, really good, because he’s still, at the end of the day, new.

“He’s had a tremendous experience in NXT, but he still is new and the ability to go on these live events, and you can have a 5 or 6 minute match with somebody you maybe wouldn’t have a 5 or 6 minute match with on television.

“The way Otis vs. Oba was 2 or 3 minutes on Raw, you can do 7 minutes at a live event, and now you’re getting a feel for what this feels like in 7 minutes, and ‘I never realised if I do this the audience does that’. I think Oba doing this stuff would be really, really good.

“I think also, with the amount of people coming up from NXT, you have people now that are younger. Guys like Cody and Punk who love working these events, that’s one thing, but they don’t really need reps at this point. Drew McIntyre doesn’t need reps at this point, but there are a lot of young guys that do.

“There are a lot of young guys and girls coming up from NXT now that maybe were getting reps at the Performance Center, NXT is running live events 2 or 3 weekends out of a month, so they’re getting those, and once they get to TV, especially if you’re not wrestling on every single TV, you’re now maybe wrestling 2 matches a month.

“So it becomes this thing of ‘how do I keep sharp, I haven’t really transitioned into this part of my career’, so for people like that, I think filling up the events with like (Fatal Influence).

“Yeah this is very cool, very good news, and I think a lot of people are going to benefit.”

The Pros & Cons Of WWE House Shows

The existence of WWE live events has led to a lot of debates over the years, with old WWE schedules running the events almost daily, leading to a lot of wrestlers feeling the effects of the gruelling schedule.

However, in recent years, the erasure of WWE live events has led to a lot of negative effects on the WWE roster, with a number of NXT call ups seemingly not progressing at the same rate as they were in NXT due to getting limited number of reps.

While the events were scaled back due to TKO not seeing them as money makers, there is absolutely a perfect middle ground for the shows, where the younger talents can get more reps in front of different crowds.
