A new report on WWE and Peacock editing, censoring and removing WWE Network content includes comments from both parties.
The New York Times ran the story, which you’re probably familiar with by now, of Peacock assessing WWE Network content and removing things such as Roddy Piper painting himself half black at WrestleMania 6 and Vince McMahon using a racial slur in a 2005 backstage segment.
NBCUniversal told the Times that it is “reviewing WWE content to ensure it aligns with Peacock’s standards and practices”.
WWE also commented, with: “Peacock and WWE are reviewing all past content to ensure it fits our 2021 standards”.
The WWE Network is moving exclusively to Peacock in the United States and all content is being checked to ensure NBC is happy with it.
This has caused quite a debate, with a lot of people questioning whether it would be better to keep such insensitive moments there for historical context so people can learn from them, instead of removing them entirely.
