Kevin Dunn’s replacement was recently confirmed as Lee Fitting who will be WWE’s Head of Media & Production.
Fitting’s appointment was revealed in a press release on January 9, 2024, with WWE President Nick Khan outlining his strengths.
The appointment of the former ESPN Senior Vice President of Production hasn’t gone down well with everyone, however, due it being an outside hire from the sports world instead of a promotion for somebody who’d already been working in WWE or even wrestling in general.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed the feel to the hire backstage, saying:
“Lee Fitting came from ESPN, he was let go in August. He did Monday Night Football, was very responsible for College GameDay.
“It was an interesting move because everybody expected someone from wrestling to be promoted, whether it was somebody that was already working there with Kevin Dunn in WWE which was the prediction.
“A lot of people wanted them to get, or thought that they would make a play for Mike Mansury, although I think that would have been impossible.”

Mansury left WWE in 2020 where he served as Vice President for Global Television.
He would go on to be hired as AEW Senior Vice President & Co-Executive Producer in December 2022.
Speaking further on the possibility of Mansury returning, Meltzer went on to say:
“A lot of people just think WWE snaps fingers and they can get anyone, but the reality is contracts are contracts, it ain’t that easy when you have that. So when I kept hearing his name, I kept saying he’s under contract, that ain’t happening anytime soon.
“So they went outside (of wrestling), which makes sense because Nick Khan is President of the company, and Nick Khan’s connections are all in the sports world.”

Meltzer has also previously revealed the reason that Dunn chose to leave WWE after more than three decades in the company.
According to Meltzer, it involved Endeavor’s plans to “make budget cuts to improve profitability” in his department.
Decisions were reportedly made without “relying on his opinions” with Dunn eventually planning his departure “around Christmas week” in 2023.
