Planned Changes To WWE TV After Kevin Dunn’s Exit Revealed WWE

Lee Fitting, the man who replaced Kevin Dunn in production, has brought tangible changes to WWE’s on-screen product already.

WWE announced the hiring of Fitting on January 9, 2024 with the official statement reflecting on his “work that generates both critical acclaim and mass appeal” as a twenty-five-year executive at ESPN.

That sports background is something that we’ve now seen in WWE, as noted by Dave Meltzer who wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

The changes in the look and feel of the television shows under the vision of Lee Fitting was noticeable on Raw this week.

There will be more elements done to make the show feel more like a sports show, such as the UFC/boxing style taped showing the arrivals of Punk and Rhodes to the building with the clock and other elements of sports shows that Fitting has produced will be added in.

This should become more and more evident in the weeks to come.

With WWE Raw heading to Netflix in January 2025, company CEO Ted Sarandos recently revealed that “sports entertainment… is right in the sweet spot of our sports business, which is the drama of sport.”

WWE recently released a video capturing CM Punk’s thoughts on his return to the company that was shot in the backstage area of WWE Raw.

The video can be seen below this news story with details of what was said by Punk here.

It had previously been reported that some within WWE had hoped for the return of Mike Mansury following Dunn’s departure.

Mansury left WWE in 2020 having served as the Vice President for Global Television and was hired by AEW in December 2022.

He currently serves as AEW’s Senior Vice President & Co-Executive Producer.

Fitting left ESPN in August 2023 in a “somewhat mysterious dismissal” that was now been revealed to revolve around a scheme to create fake names for Emmy Award consideration.

His punishment for involvement in the scheme means he is “no longer eligible for future Emmy Award nominations.”
