Former WWE star AJ Francis (fka Top Dolla) has explained how his infamous SmackDown botch saved his life.
Francis teamed with Ashante ‘Thee’ Adonis on the December 16, 2022 edition of SmackDown in a three-way bout against Ivar & Erik of the Viking Raiders and Cruz Del Toro & Joaquin Wilde of Legado Del Fantasma.
During the bout, Francis attempted a dive over the top rope but barely made it out of the ring.
While Francis was mocked by Michael Cole for much of his WWE career after this botch, the Hit Row star has revealed that the botch came with a very big silver lining.
Francis took to Twitter to celebrate the anniversary of this botch, revealing that when he went to the doctors after, they discovered that he had type II diabetes.
Francis explained:
The botch saved my life. I made that dive a dozen times before, legs felt off but I didn’t think about it. After I failed I went to the doc & found out I had Type II diabetes & my blood sugar was 626.
I almost lost my life & was about to lose both feet. The botch saved my life.
Top Dolla was released from his WWE contract in September, during that month’s round of WWE cuts.
He last wrestled on TV during the August 11 edition of SmackDown, losing to LA Knight in singles action.
