Saturday 28 January brings us the WWE Royal Rumble and it’s bound to have its share of surprise appearances, but not from one Hall of Famer.
Speaking on WrestleBinge by Sportskeeda, Ricky Steamboat addressed the possibility of a return at Royal Rumble, saying:
“I think it’s too big of a stage for me. I had a really good showing 9 or 10 years ago …12 years ago with [Chris Jericho at WWE Backlash in 2009].
“God bless him.
“He took care of me.”
Steamboat would go on to highlight the factors that have weighed into his decision not return to WWE, explaining:
“That was really the last Steamboat that people saw …. I felt that was the last time that people saw 70% of the young guy.
“I could carry my weight, and that’s the way I want it.
“No, Triple H could say, ‘We’re going to take care of you.’
“No, to be honest with you, it’s just not in the heart anymore.”
Steamboat last appeared on WWE TV in February 2019 as part of the birthday celebration for Ric Flair on WWE Raw.
His last wrestling match was at Big Time Wrestling’s Enter The Dragon show, where he joined forces with AEW’s FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) to take on Brock Anderson, Jay Lethal and Nick Aldis.
Steamboat and FTR would go on to be victorious in that match.
