Major WWE Star Planning Time Off, Potential Storyline Issues WWE

UPDATE: There has been a huge development on this situation announced by WWE – read more at this link.

An update has been provided on plans for Ronda Rousey as she and Shayna Baszler set their sights on the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles.

With recent reports that Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez were set to face Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville on the May 15 episode of WWE Raw, only to have that match postponed due to an unspecified injury to Morgan, it looks like Rousey and Baszler may have to wait a while before becoming tag team champions.

According to the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), the “women’s tag titles have been cursed since Rousey & Baszler were supposed to win them at Mania”.

That scrapped moment would have apparently been a “step one” for the Ronda Rousey tag team champion storyline.

Due to injuries suffered by Rousey, the planned title change at Mania couldn’t happen, and she and Baszler were instead in the four-way tag match where Rousey didn’t actually have to do anything so as not to worsen the injury.

Meltzer also notes that the timing of the story has become an issue for WWE as Rousey had, before WrestleMania, planned to take a break from the company.

Rousey’s seemingly recovered as she returned on Raw this past Monday, but with Morgan now currently out with an injury, aside from vacating the championship, WWE would have to come up with a way to speed up the storyline to fit in with Rousey’s contract and schedule to get it done before she takes the time off.

Meltzer noted that the original plan was to “establish the team (of Rousey & Baszler) as champions for a while and then do the actual storyline that this was to build to.”

Here are results from the May 15 episode of WWE Raw:
