Major WWE Show Cancelled, Top Raw Star Drafted To SmackDown, Sasha Banks Teases Return – News Bulletin – October 17, 2022 WWE

A major WWE show has been cancelled, a top Raw star has been drafted to SmackDown, Sasha Banks has teased her return and more.

It’s Monday morning and what better way to start the day than getting caught up on all the latest wrestling news with our news bulletin for Monday, 17 October 2022.

Major Upcoming WWE Premium Live Event Cancelled

The first-ever WWE Day 1 Premium Live Event (PLE) took place on January 1, 2022 and was promised to be a new annual event in the creaking PLE calendar.

Following an announcement that Day 1 would returned on January 1, 2023, all was looking well, until rumours emerged that the date may change.

Now, it appears that WWE have cancelled the event completely with the first PLE of 2023 being the Royal Rumble on January 28, 2023.

Wrestlenomics were the first to report the news, with Brandon Thurston reporting that the show had been completely taken off the schedule, rather than just changing the date.

This means there will not be a WWE Premium Live Event between the end of November 2022, when Survivor Series War Games will hit our screens, and the end of January, with the traditional Royal Rumble show.

Let’s hope they’ve got some good, long stories booked for that two month PLE-less period.

WWE Star Switches Brands From Raw To SmackDown

“I quit.”

Not my words, but the words of Rey Mysterio to Triple H in a backstage segment on WWE SmackDown.

Thankfully, Triple H didn’t just let Mysterio go and they were able to come to terms with Mysterio replacing Karrion Kross in the main event of the show.

On commentary, it would be revealed that Mysterio had officially joined the SmackDown brand, breaking ties with RAW, the home of his son, Dominik, and the nefarious members of Judgment Day.

WWE Legend Rey Mysterio has been moved to SmackDown.

Rey Mysterio’s move to SmackDown was a long time coming, after his son Dominik turned on him at the Clash at the Castle Premium Live Event.

Dominik would subsequently join Finn Balor’s Judgement Day, and has spent the past few weeks terrorising his father, and being Dom’d by Rhea Ripley.

It’s an exciting time for SmackDown fans, with the Sami Zayn/Bloodline storyline, Bray Wyatt returning, and now Rey Mysterio showing up to add a genuine legend to the roster.

Sasha Banks & Naomi Return Updates

Sharing a fan-made graphic on Instagram, Sasha Banks has teased the idea of a wrestling return, something that many fans are awaiting with anticipation.

The image, showing Banks vs Stardom’s KAIRI (Kairi Sane) for the IWGP Women’s Championship, was also shared by KAIRI and they both seemed positive about the idea.

Former WWE stars Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of the company in May 2022.

Naomi, meanwhile, is reportedly still in talks with WWE over her contract, with suggestions that her previous deal may have been “frozen” due to the time she has been away from the company.

Banks and Naomi have not been seen in a wrestling ring, or in any wrestling capacity for that matter since May 2022, after they both walked out of a WWE Raw taping.

Both women have worked on several outside projects since walking out, but it appears they still want to make a return to the ring at some point.

Other Stuff

Jason Jordan was the producer of Bray Wyatt’s SmackDown return segment on October 14th which saw the enigma deliver an emotional promo only to be interrupted by a figure in the “Uncle Howdy” mask.

Rhea Ripley made her in-ring return at a WWE Live Event in Sioux City, Iowa on October 16th, 2022 having been sidelined with an injury since June.

Roman Reigns faces Logan Paul at WWE Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on November 5 and is set to appear on the November 11 and November 18 episodes of SmackDown, suggesting some involvement in Survivor Series, though not at the “go home” episode of the show on November 25.

The OC are back in WWE, but Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson still have NJPW dates to fulfil and it looks like WWE are going to allow them to fulfil their “verbal commitment” to the company.
