WWE has filed several trademarks on the “Ucey” catchphrase and its offshoots made popular by Sami Zayn and the Bloodline.
The word “Ucey” is a play on the names of Zayn’s stablemates the Usos. The word ‘uce’ is also derived from the term ‘uso’ meaning brother, and Jimmy & Jey Uso frequently use ‘uce’ as a filler word.
Zayn coined the term in a recent WWE SmackDown segment, where Zayn accused Jey Uso of not being ‘very Ucey’.
Later, on the October 28 edition of SmackDown, Zayn made the entire Bloodline break character by diffusing a moment of tension between Reigns and Jey Uso, explaining to the Tribal Chief that his cousin’s behaviour was a result of his not ‘feeling Ucey.’
The phrase caught on with fans, who immediately started chanting ‘Ucey’ at the group.
Now it appears WWE is preparing to capitalise on the success of the phrase, trademarking the word “Ucey” for both merchandising and entertainment purposes.
The company has also trademarked the term “Feeling Ucey” for the following purposes:
“(This) trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of clothing, namely, tops, shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, hoodies; outerwear, namely, coats; bottoms, pants, shorts, underwear, dresses, pajamas, lingerie, clothing ties, scarves, gloves, swimwear; Halloween and masquerade costumes; footwear, namely, shoes, sneakers, slippers, flip flops, boots; headwear, namely, hats, caps; wrist bands; bandanas; championship trophy belts.”
“Ucey” has had the same trademark applied to it, as well as the following:
“(This) trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports.”
