Welcome to a very special edition of my ‘WWE Matches Of The Week’. Not only did we get the usual collection of Raw, SmackDown Live, 205 Live and NXT but we were also gifted some pay-per-views. On top of the weekly shows, we had NXT TakeOver: Chicago II on Saturday and WWE Money In The Bank 2018 on Sunday.
With all this lovely wrestling content, there are plenty of matches to go through so without further ado, let’s get cracking!
NXT TakeOver: Chicago II
NXT Tag Team Championships
Undisputed Era (Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong) (c) vs. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch
Starting off this list in a strong way for sure. These two teams beat the living daylights out of each other and it was magical. Of course, in a place like Chicago, the heels were always going to get to biggest pop. Undisputed Era reigned supreme and worked like the champions they are.
Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan were out to make a name for themselves though and sweet Christmas did they ever! The crowd barely made a sound when they entered the arena but after a hot tag, Lorcan ran wild. By the end of the match, they received a standing ovation and it was more than deserved. I’m incredibly excited to see what is next for the old One-Two.
NXT TakeOver: Chicago II
Ricochet vs. Velveteen Dream
From strength to strength as NXT is like to do, Velveteen Dream and Ricochet continued the night’s momentum in style. The Dream made a huge statement by coming down to the ring in attire that was a cross between Hulk Hogan and Prince Puma (Ricochet’s luchador persona in Lucha Underground). The two then went to work, one-upping each other from bell-to-bell.
They stole each other’s moves on several occasions and had the crowd on their feet. Ricochet is carving his place on the NXT roster. Dream, on the other hand, is simply proving once again that he is the future of this company. His character work is second to none in the entirety of WWE. These two put on a barnstormer with Ricochet’s athletic ability making it a spectacle while Dream’s storytelling gave it depth.
