On August 8, WWE recorded the entirety of the first round of their 2018 Mae Young Classic with a few shocks and some stunning outings along the way. Last night, the company completed the tournament and gave us a potential match of the year candidate for WWE Evolution on October 28, where, of course, the final will occur.
Following the first evening of tapings for the second annual Mae Young Classic, word got out that WWE were attempting to halt spoilers leaking from the tournament. They even went as far as having a quiet word with an affiliate during the event to stop results spilling onto the internet. It didn’t work.
The following is a complete spoiler run-down of the second and final night of tapings which takes in the Second Round, Quarter-Finals, and Semi-Finals. Leave now if you don’t want to know what transpired.
The main event of episode one – which will be episode 5 in the running order – saw Mercedes Martinez and Meiko Satomura slug it out for a place in the Quarter-Final. In what is reported to be another outstanding exhibition, the Japanese marvel came out on top with a sumptuous scissor kick. Though Satomura won the contest, WWE really should consider giving Martinez anything she wants to join the promotion. She’s a superb talent.
In results from the rest of the episode:
- Toni Storm blitzed Hiroyo Matsumoto
- Rhea Ripley cracked Kacy Catanzaro
- Lacey Lane went over Taynara Conti
Mia Yim vs. Kaitlyn was the main event of episode 2 – episode 6 in the run – as the Cinderella comeback story of the former WWE Divas Champion continued. Unfortunately for Kaitlyn, it would end here, as the extraordinary Yim forced her foe to submit to a knee-bar in a match which, by all accounts, was super-heated at its climax.
We’ve seen the redemption story too often in tournaments such as this. The Brian Kendrick lived one in the Cruiserweight Classic, and Serena Deeb fulfilled the position last year. However, one is sure this won’t be the last we see of Kaitlyn in WWE.
In results from the rest of the episode:
- Io Shirai defeated Zeuxis
- Deonna Purrazzo blasted Xia Li
- Tegan Nox whitewashed Nicole Matthews
- Jessamyn Duke, Marina Shafir, Shayna Baszler, and Ricochet were all present in the audience
