The reports of John Cena and Daniel Bryan both refusing to compete at Crown Jewel have been proven true this week.
John Cena was removed from the World Cup tournament on Raw and replaced with Bobby Lashley and on SmackDown Daniel Bryan was removed from his WWE Title match with AJ Styles.

Styles and Bryan confronted each other at the start of the show and decided to go at it right then and there. In a wrestling first, Shane McMahon came out and noted that in this sort of situation usually the match does not happen, but that is not the way he runs the good ship SmackDown.
The match went ahead (and was very good, obviously), going through several advert breaks until Styles cleanly beat Bryan via submission with the calf crusher.
Where the heck did HE come from?!?!@SamoaJoe is BACK and he wants to put @AJStylesOrg to 😴!!! #SDLive #WWEChampionship pic.twitter.com/L9OxVw5hix

Following a respectful embrace between the pair, Samoa Joe then hit the ring and wiped out Styles. Bryan made the save, briefly, but was also beaten down by Joe.
So there you have it. WWE have solved the Bryan Crown Jewel riddle by giving the match away on free television, ending it with a decisive win for the champion, and placing (the supposedly injured) Samoa Joe into the spot.
