Former WWE Champion AJ Styles has been somewhat of a question mark as of late regarding his contract status. It was believed his contract expired in April this year, and while no official reports had confirmed his renewal, it was strongly expected he would re-sign with WWE. That was, until yesterday.
During the day yesterday, various news outlets reported that AJ Styles had come to terms on a shiny new WWE contract, as expected. However, ‘The Phenomenal One’ himself has denied these reports on Twitter.
What was that? Are you sure? Please let me know the more because I know nothing about this. 🤨 https://t.co/912V4k44uy

Quoting the headline of “Breaking: AJ Styles Comes To Terms On New WWE Contract”, Styles vehemently denied this, stating he knew nothing about a new contract.
This is a very interesting time for AJ’s contract to be expiring, as he remains very good friends with some important AEW figureheads, such as The Young Bucks. While it’s not expected for him to join the promotion, it does give him incredible leverage while re-negotiating with WWE.
Having said that, publicly denying re-signing to the company you’re currently signed to may be indicative of another opportunity for Styles, and maybe he does end up joining AEW. Maybe he goes back to NJPW. Maybe he retires. Or maybe, just maybe, he’s trying to generate some buzz, and he has in fact re-signed with WWE.
AJ Styles is scheduled to face off against five others inside the Elimination Chamber for the WWE Championship on February 17.
