One of the many criticisms of Raw and Smackdown is that the matches often go through commercial breaks, meaning those watching on TV miss much of the action and subsequently fail to get invested in the bout.
This week on Raw, New Day faced off against Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in a two-out-of-three falls match. The following night on Smackdown, Kofi Kingston and Seth Rollins took on Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in yet another match with the same stipulation.
It appears there was a reason for this, as Vince McMahon reportedly no longer wants wrestling taking place during the commercial breaks.
Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer Radio is reporting that Vince held a meeting last week and told everyone that they cannot have matches continuing into commercial breaks. Matches now having multiple falls will allow for more of a continuous flow.
This is a big change for WWE, with many fans and critics alike taking issue with this previously. Let’s just hope this change lasts longer than some of the other “changes” that have been implemented before being swiftly dropped.
