At WWE Super ShowDown, Randy Orton defeated Triple H with an RKO in a nearly 26-minute match. Orton’s clash with his former Evolution stablemate on June 7th was his last appearance on WWE TV.
It has been revealed in a recent report that his absence was down to a neck injury. However, it was not believed to be a serious injury.
Dave Meltzer confirmed in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Orton did indeed suffer a neck injury in a match with Aleister Black at a recent WWE Live Event.
On a more scary note, Meltzer notes that a few years back, Orton was told he needed neck surgery that would keep him out of action for a whole year. However, he received a second opinion from another doctor who said he was fine without it:
“A few years back his doctor told him he would need neck surgery which would have kept him out of action for a year, but later got a second opinion from another doctor who said he didn’t need the surgery”.
Meltzer is likely implying that Orton might now need the surgery after suffering yet another knock to his neck.
WrestleTalk will provide more information on the matter if and when it becomes available.
