On the 09/30 episode of Raw, Rey Mysterio and his son Dominik were attacked by “The Beast” Brock Lesnar.
A few days later on the debut of Friday Nighy Smackdown on FOX, Rey brought MMA fighter Cain Velasquez into the WWE to challenge Lesnar.
Since his first appearance in a WWE ring, Velasquez has been involved in promos and segments with Mysterio. Mysterio is even playing a managerial role for the former UFC Heavyweight Championship.
This week at Crown Jewel, Velasquez will be challenging Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship. However, Cain has another title in his sights for when he is done with Brock.
Speaking with Sam Roberts on the Not Sam Wrestling Podcast, Velasquez revealed that he and Rey are eyeing up the WWE Tag Team Championships:
“We’re going after those tag team titles.”
Should Velasquez lose to Brock Lesnar on Thursday, Cain could move to Raw and form a permanent team with Rey Mysterio. The pair could then challenge the Viking Raiders for the Raw Tag Team titles later down the line in a neat little feud.
I am actually really not against this idea at all. Cain Velasquez has only wrestled two professional matches so far in his career, so allowing him to tag with a veteran like Rey could do wonders for his career.
There is no word on if WWE plans on having Velasquez and Mysterio challenge for the belts, so stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com for the latest.
