More news has come to light regarding a scrapped championship feud on WWE SmackDown following controversy over the last couple of weeks.
New Day was set for a program over their SmackDown Tag Team Championship with the Forgotten Sons, who were moved to SmackDown from NXT after WrestleMania.
However, amidst the Black Lives Matter movement, Jaxson Ryker posted a tweet in support of Donald Trump, and other controversial social media activity of his from the past emerged.
As a result, Dave Meltzer is reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the New Day/Forgotten Sons program is off, and the champions will instead be working with the team of Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura, who beat them last week.
It’s unfortunate because Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler made it clear they didn’t agree with Ryker’s comments, and as the two more active members of the group, with Ryker usually just cornering them, they’re now off TV.
There have, however, been concerns about the gimmick as a whole during this time given recent events in the USA. It’s unknown whether the program will be restarted at some point in the future.
