Another Thursday, another set of AEW Dynamite and NXT viewerships. As has become routine at this point, All Elite Wrestling once again topped their rivals on the USA Network.
Bryan Alvarez posted the numbers on Twitter earlier today. Dynamite garnered an average of 835,000 viewers while NXT drew an average of 696,000 viewers.
AEW: 835,000
NXT: 696,000— Bryan Alvarez (@bryanalvarez) September 24, 2020
Both numbers were down from last week, however, NXT’s drop was barely noticeable. Dynamite fell 51,000 viewers from last week’s average of 886,000 viewers, while NXT only dropped 2,000 from last week’s 698,000.
AEW Dynamite was impacted by a positive COVID-19 test to Lance Archer this week. Archer and Jon Moxley were meant to build up their upcoming AEW World Championship match but Archer was taken off the show. Instead, Eddie Kingston challenged Moxley unsuccessfully in the main event.
The show also featured the return of Cody and the in-ring debut of Miro.
Over on NXT, a pair of heavily-hyped number one contender matches took place. Candice LeRae won a battle royale for the right to challenge Io Shirai at NXT Takeover 31. Meanwhile, Kyle O’Reilly won the Gauntlet Eliminator match to earn the right to face Finn Balor for the NXT Championship.
AEW’s next pay per view, Full Gear, isn’t until November, while NXT Takeover 31 is on October 4.
