Today at the NJPW Power Struggle show, Jay White defeated Kota Ibushi to capture the G1 Climax Briefcase, earning him a guaranteed title shot against Tetsuya Naito at Wrestle Kingdom 15 next year.
Kota Ibushi won the briefcase after defeating SANADA in the finals of the G1 Climax last month. In losing to Jay White, he has lost the right to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental titles at Wrestle Kingdom 15.
Jay White managed to pin Ibushi with a backslide with his feet on the ropes. This marked the first time that the G1 Briefcase has been unsuccessfully defended and the first time that it has changed hands.
Jay White will now challenge Tetsuya Naito to a dual IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championship match at Wrestle Kingdom 15 on either January 4 or 5 at the beginning of next year.
