Like many other wrestling promotions, Ring of Honor took an extended hiatus during the pandemic. After Rush won the ROH World Championship at Gateway to Honor, the company shut down for six months.
Now, we have some clarification on how the company has handled the contracts of their stars. Fightful Select (subscription required) is reporting that the company has not tacked on more time to their existing contracts.
Notable examples of companies doing this have been WWE when their stars have gotten injured and Lucha Underground. Lucha Underground is the more appropriate example as the promotion would force their stars to remain under contract while the show was on hiatus. This led to lawsuits being filed to allow the wrestlers out of their contracts.
It should be noted that the word has been that Ring of Honor has treated their talent exceptionally well during the pandemic.
ROH did return with their Pure Championship tournament, relaunching ROH TV with no-fans shows. The company ultimately put on their Final Battle pay per view on December 18, 2020, a show that was received well by critics and fans.
