We now know who was behind Erick Rowan (now Erick Redbeard) appearing on the Brodie Lee tribute edition of AEW Dynamite.
Speaking with Renee Paquette on her Oral Sessions podcast, AEW President, CEO and GM Tony Khan said it was Shawn Spears who made the suggestion to bring Erick Rowan in.
Khan said:
“That was Spears’ idea, yeah that was Spears’ idea. The day before he asked if I wanted to use Erick Redbeard. I said I would like to have him, that’s a great idea. I would probably have him come out in the middle of the show and do the thing with the Dark Order and Hangman there, and then have Amanda and Brodie Lee Jr at the end, and that’s why we did it that way.”
Rowan came out to assist Alex Reynolds, John Silver and Adam Page in beating MJF, Santana and Ortiz in a six-man tag team match, before an emotional embrace in the ring after its conclusion.
As of the latest update on the matter, the appearance was a one-off for Rowan to honor his friend, and he hasn’t signed with the promotion.
