One of the most infamous moments of WWE exploiting the death of a wrestler came in early 2006. On an episode of SmackDown, Randy Orton told Rey Mysterio that the recently deceased Eddie Guerrero was in Hell. The angle has gone down in history as one of WWE’s most tasteless moments.
Now, Jim Ross has commented on what he believes Vickie Guerrero’s reaction was to the idea. On Grillin’ JR Ross said he hated the idea and also that he thought Vickie went along with the idea so as to not rock the boat in WWE. Here is the quote, courtesy of Wrestling News:
“I think Vickie was just very leary to disagree with the major creative element of this PPV and didn’t want to cause any ruckus and she was working there, or she wanted to work there. I don’t know where she was at that exact time, but she was looking to work. She was looking to be able to feed her girls and her and take care of her overhead and all those things. The deal there was, I’m not sure if Vickie embraced it? I’m not sure if she did or didn’t. I wasn’t in the loop in that deal. I think she was probably trying to protect her own potential job offerings by not creating any waves. That would be my take on it.”
The angle ultimately resulted in Rey Mysterio winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22, pinning Randy Orton. Mysterio dedicated his win to Eddie Guerrero.
