WWE has reportedly put a new rule in place regarding the age of new signings to the company’s developmental program.
It’s no secret that WWE’s roster is aging, which was very much emphasised with this year’s men’s Royal Rumble match in particular.
There has now been a reaction to this, with Dave Meltzer reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that, unless a new signing already has name value or special potential, no developmental signings should be over 30.
The latest batch of signings featured Eli Drake (now LA Knight), 38, and Taya Valkyrie (yet to debut), 37, but they obviously fit into the exceptional category.
The men’s Royal Rumble match this year had an average age of 39.4. The only participant under 29 was Dominik Mysterio at 23, and the only other one under 30 was Otis at 29. Everyone else was 30 or above.
16, so just over half, were 40 or above.
