Vince McMahon Reaction To First Seeing Brock Lesnar Revealed

Vince McMahon Reaction To First Seeing Brock Lesnar Revealed

Former WWE commentator Jim Ross has recalled the moment when Vince McMahon saw Brock Lesnar for the very first time.

Brock Lesnar is one of the most dominant athletes in WWE history. Winning multiple world titles and ending Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak, Lesnar certainly lived up to his “Next Big Thing” moniker.

According to Jim Ross, Vince McMahon recognised Lesnar’s potential immediately. Speaking with TalkSPORT, Ross detailed how McMahon went out of his way to speak to The Beast during their first interactions.

Gerry Brisco had previously talked to McMahon about Lesnar. The Chairman had remembered Brisco’s words, so Lesnar hardly needed an introduction.

Here is the full quote:

“So McMahon is walking about with his Mr. McMahon walk and he happens to glance over and Gerry Brisco is standing by this monster. Vince made a U-turn and bee-lined right to Brock – he had never seen him. Never watched him wrestle. He knew Gerry and I was high on him, but Gerry didn’t meet with Vince on a regular basis, I met with Vince every day. I said, ‘We got this kid we’re going to sign and he’s going to be extraordinary. You’re going to love him.’”

“So when Vince laid eyes on him he knew that we had the guy. If he had any aptitude whatsoever – we knew athletically he was going to be great, he’d already proven himself as an athlete – but if he could get the showbiz side of it and have the aptitude to be a pro wrestler, he was going to be our guy for a while. And that worked out.”

Brock Lesnar debuted on WWE TV in 2002. He won his first WWE Championship in the same year, defeating The Rock for the gold at SummerSlam. Lesnar last competed at WrestleMania 36, dropping the WWE Title to Drew McIntyre.

McIntyre and Braun Strowman both unsuccessfully challenged Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania Backlash. This match was planned to close the show at one stage, but ultimately took place on the undercard.

Roman Reigns’ Universal Championship defence against Cesaro was chosen to main-event WrestleMania Backlash. You can read about the change of plans here.
