One of the more surprising names on the list of people released by WWE yesterday was Jessamyn Duke, who appeared to be set for big things in NXT and WWE as part of the Four Horsewomen of MMA faction.
It was long rumoured that WWE was planning a Four Horsewomen vs Four Horsewomen match, which would see Ronda Rousey team with Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke, taking on a team of Charlotte Flair, Bayley, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks.
Following Shayna Baszler being moved to the main roster, Shafir and Duke seemed to fall out of favour in NXT, and neither has featured in any significant storylines for a very long time.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that Duke in particular had suffered injuries which took her off TV.
“Jessamyn, I think that she’d been hurt some. The Four Horsewomen thing, which is why she was brought in, obviously is never gonna happen. I thought she was doing reasonably well, but she’d gotten hurt.”
Meltzer didn’t say her injuries were why she was released, but in the past WWE has released or buried wrestlers who they felt were too injury-prone.
We will being you any further news on the NXT releases as it becomes available.
