Some details have been provided regarding WWE’s decision to move the Roman Reigns vs Rey Mysterio Hell in a Cell match to SmackDown.
The match was originally announced for this coming Sunday’s pay-per-view but will instead be taking place on SmackDown tonight.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that there were discussions on Thursday and the decision was made to hold it on SmackDown, but seemingly there was no actual explanation as to why. He wrote:
The word we were told is that you can’t describe why, there were just a bunch of discussions on Thursday and the discussions ended up with “Let’s do it on Smackdown”.
The plan as of the report was that Roman Reigns would not be wrestling on the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, so it doesn’t seem like this was done with a rematch or spinoff match in mind.
That means there are now only four matches officially confirmed for Hell in a Cell, with Bobby Lashley defending the WWE Title against Drew McIntyre inside the cell itself as the headliner now.
We’ll keep you updated and will of course be providing live coverage of both SmackDown and Hell in a Cell this weekend.
