Tony Khan On Origins Of Andrade El Idolo & Vickie Guerrero Partnership

AEW President Tony Khan has revealed the origins of the onscreen partnership between Andrade El Idolo and Vickie Guerrero

Andrade El Idolo was managed by Vickie Guerrero when he first joined AEW. On the July 21 Fyter Fest show, Chavo Guerrero Jr debuted for AEW as Andrade’s executive consultant.

In an interview with Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, Tony Khan revealed that the connection with the Guerrero family was intentional. Stating that Andrade requested to be associated with the Guerreros onscreen, Khan said:

“It was his idea to make the connection with the Guerreros and he had asked about using Vickie. It was my idea to bring in Chavo. I thought Chavo would really add something. I’d seen Chavo recently on an independent show. He was in great shape and we had talked about associating because Andrade El Idolo comes from a very famous wrestling family.

“He wanted to be associated with that (the Guerreros) and Vickie was here. As we went on I wanted to add something to the presentation and I couldn’t put my finger on what, and then I saw Chavo on an independent show and I just had a light bulb moment.”

Vickie Guerrero had previously revealed that she only found out she was working with Andrade the day of his first AEW appearance. Andrade made his in-ring debut for the promotion at the July 7 Road Rager show, defeating Matt Sydal in singles action.

Earlier this week, the wrestling world came together to remember the late Eddie Guerrero, declaring him an A+ player.
